Gerard Henry Romaine, known to his friends as Jerry Romaine, passed away at Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital in Oceanside after an eight-year battle with stage four cancer. He was 64 years old. Born in Queens, New York, Jerry faced life’s challenges with remarkable strength and resilience, a trait he carried throughout his long and courageous fight with illness. He passed peacefully, surrounded in love by his wife, children, and brother.
Jerry began his law enforcement career in 1985 as a transit cop with the NYPD. In 1989, he joined the Suffolk County Police Department, where he patrolled the First Precinct before being promoted to sergeant in 2002. He went on to serve with dedication and integrity in the Second Precinct until his retirement. His decades of service were marked by quiet strength, discipline, and a deep sense of duty.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Jerry was a volunteer firefighter with the Meadowmere Park Fire Department and a prolific tradesman at the Bellmore Flea Market, where his warm presence and quick wit made him a beloved figure.
Jerry was a kind and intentional man, deeply devoted to his family, his country, and his beloved New York Mets. He was a lifelong comic book fan. He also adored his guinea pigs, Comet and Lenny, and the late Zeus, who brought him joy and comfort.
Despite facing an arduous battle with cancer, Jerry never wavered. He courageously defied the odds, determined to make the most of every moment. Jerry was determined to experience significant family milestones, and he was especially proud to walk his daughter Kaitlyn down the aisle at her wedding, and to enjoy a cigar and beer with his namesake, Jerry Jr.
He was the beloved son of Henry and Lucille Romaine, devoted husband of Joyce Romaine, and proud father of Kaitlyn Romaine Stanton, Gerard Romaine Jr., and Shane Romaine. He was also a loving father-in-law to Michael Stanton, cherished brother to Timothy Romaine, and brother-in-law to Margaret Romaine.
One minute we’re little kids either playing out on the wrap around porch of his house or at my house with the dogs. Then, in a blink, we’re walking home from Lawrence HS, stopping to get some hits at the batting range. Then we buy homes near each other, serve in Meadowmere Park fire dept, raise our families, and enjoy our share (well, maybe more than) of adult beverages together.
When Jerry first was a Transit cop, he spent a lot of time at my Dads house because my Dad had retired from there 5 years earlier so they had plenty to talk about.
When my brother Mike passed, my first call was to Jerry.
My heart goes out to Joyce, Kaity, Jerry, Shane, Timmy, Maggie, their children and all the rest of his family.
Jerry.
My oldest friend.
Rest in peace brother.
Beautiful sentiments to honor a loving husband & devoted father. Jerry was a wholeheartedly dedicated warrior and fearless in the pursuit of justice. It was always reassuring to know Jerry was on the road and had your back.
To Joyce, Kaitlyn, Gerald & Shane—our deepest condolences, you all were his greatest pride and it was clear in our conversations that his love for you was immeasurable.
Jerry—keep some cold ones on the ice for when we meet again!
Rest in a well deserved Peace.

To my TOY BUDDY JERRY... thank you so much for helping me get through my dads "ANDY THE TOY GUY" passing back in January of 2023.
You and my dad are up there in heaven together right now flipping old baseball cards, thumbing through old comics, racing aurora slot cars, smashing up hot wheel cars, dressing up gi joes..... doing all the things little kids do.
Yes, WE NEVER GREW UP !!!
Thank you for all the buys, sells and trades of toys and cool stuff we did over the years.
Remember all those afternoons that turned into late nights when you came over my house. Your wife calling around 9:30 p.m. for you to come home and take your medicine.
We were just two BIG KIDS having a good time.
I could go on and on my friend. But many things we need to keep between us two. Thanks again for all the great memories.
Say "HI" to my dad for me.
I love you guys,
