It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Tommy, who bravely fought Stage IV cancer and Parkinson’s disease for four years before being called home. He peacefully passed away at St. Peter’s Hospice in Albany, New York, surrounded by his loving family.
Tommy was born and raised in Hewlett, New York, and attended GW Hewlett High School. After finishing his studies, he worked at Computer Instruments in Hempstead before proudly serving in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963 as a Private First Class in the 1st Cavalry Infantry. After his service, Tommy had a long and fulfilling career that spanned 45 years as a bartender, fondly remembering his time at The Hewlett Inn, Rasputin’s, and Rafter’s. He later transitioned into a role at UPS.
A passionate and steadfast supporter of veterans, his generosity knew no bounds, and he consistently gave his time and resources to assist others. Throughout his illness, Tommy’s strength and resilience were evident, and he was always supported by his devoted family— Mare, Christopher, and Steven. He was a loving partner, best friend, and pop.
With a heart full of love and a zest for life, Tommy treasured every moment spent with his family. He lived each day to the fullest, finding joy in the simple things and creating unforgettable memories with his loved ones. Tommy loved life. He enjoyed riding his bike, relaxing at the beach, traveling, skiing, and watching sports, westerns, and classic films. His family brought him the greatest joy, and his laughter, kindness, and warmth will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit and love will forever inspire and live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Raymond’s RC Church, 263 Atlantic Avenue, East Rockaway, NY 11518, on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 10:45 am. Interment to follow at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Boulevard, Calverton, New York 11933.
