Hurelia (Ralia) Samerson, was born on September 20th, 1951, on the island of Aruba, to Millicent and Hubert Caton. Hurelia later migrated to Carriacou, Grenada, at the age of 3.

Hurelia attended Harvey Vale Government School, and in 1971, she met and married the love of her life, Martin “Watson” Samerson.  From this union, their children Wayne, Natasia, Jordie, and Kevin were born. In 1981, the family migrated to the USA, and settled in Far Rockaway, NY. They raised their family on Long Island, in Cedarhurst, NY.

For over 40 years, Hurelia worked as a home care nurse, caring for several families in the five towns, dedicated to her patients. Hurelia always had a special bond with her patients and brought light to their lives. Hurelia was known for her amicable character, her family-oriented lifestyle, her industrious work ethic, and her devotion to her Roman Catholic faith. Hurelia was a devoted companion to her husband Martin, for over 50 years, and was an extraordinary mother to her children. Her special devotion to her daughter Natasia’s well-being was extraordinary.

As a mother and as a wife to Martin, Hurelia was naturally a source of vital energy and ardent love within the household, and beyond. Hurelia loved to cook for those she loved, making many different kinds of dishes, joyfully
serving them with love. When she wasn’t working, Hurelia was dedicated to her family, especially Natasha, Martin, and her grandchildren. Hurelia took pride inraising her children and providing them with the best education possible.
Being well dressed and in fashion, was something Hurelia instilled in her children. Hurelia loved listening to music, especially soca and danced every moment she could. Hurelia was a positive force to everyone around her and was a source of strength to many others.
On January 4th, 2025, Hurelia lost her battle with an illness and was called home to eternal rest. Hurelia leaves behind her beloved and grieving husband Martin, along with their children Wayne (deceased), Natasia, Jordie, Kevin and Dale. Hurelia leaves behind her grandchildren, Francesco, Lorenzo and Olivia, who will miss her dearly. Her sisters Tina in the UK and Elcia in the States, also Leslyn Hamlet who was like a sister to her, will forever miss her strong loving spirit. Hurelia will be missed by all her family and friends, and we love you.
