Gilma H. Serpas

October 13, 1944 – April 10, 2020  age 75

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Gilma Haydee Serpas (nee Maldonado) on April 10, 2020 at the age of 75. She was a loving wife, mother, and Abuela. She is survived by her loving husband Carlos A. Serpas, daughters; Loreta Priscilla Sepulveda (Kharis Sepulveda), Diana Haydee Miley (William T. Miley) and grandchildren Bianca Sepulveda, Madison Angelina and Tucker Miley. Gilma immigrated from her native El Salvador to the United States in 1966 and started her life in the Five Towns area as an Au Pair to a family in Hewlett, NY. She came to the United States with a desire to improve her life and achieve the American Dream. She worked hard and industriously to provide a Catholic education for her children. She enjoyed music, dancing and traveling with her husband. She was a devout Catholic and served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Parish, Far Rockaway, NY. She worked as a nurse’s aide in her final years before she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. A private viewing will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Donza Funeral Home. A private internment at St. Charles Cemetery will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at 10 am.
